Renowned Pakistani American scholar Dr Zulfiqar A Kazmi has underscored need of collective efforts for the promotion of peace and brotherhood aimed at creation of intolerance-free society. Addressing a Peace Conference organised by University of Gujrat Sialkot Campus on Thursday, he stressed the need of changing the mindset for overcoming our multi-pronged social and economic issues.
"At this critical juncture there is great need of bringing positive change in our thinking and morality for the development of a healthy society," he said. Kazmi said the promotion of tolerance and decency were the key instruments for bringing radical changes in every sphere of life as well as tracking the society on right track. "We have failed to identify our real enemies and if impartially analysed the overall situation the illiteracy is our main enemy as a result of which the whole nation is suffering from socio-economic problems as well as confronting with extremism," he said.
He said that education always played a pivotal role in character building, decency and helped promote moral values in the society. "It is very unfortunate that there was a rapid decline due to the lack of education in our moral values as a result of which the respect of elders and even parents had totally been vanished in the society," he said.
Dr Kazmi said that under circumstances it was the moral, religious and national duty of youth that should concentrate on spreading the message of peace, tolerance, brotherhood and love among the masses for creating healthy society in accordance the Islamic tenants, adding that "Islam is the religion of brotherhood, tolerance and love and forbidden the extremism." He suggested that joint efforts were direly needed at this juncture for educating the people at large scale for overcoming certain problems and to promote extremism and intolerance-free society.
