Business community is the driving force of the national economy, hence, consultation with it in trade, industry and economy-related policy matters will boost the confidence of the business community and lead to helping the government in achieving economic targets. These views were expressed by LCCI Senior Vice President Amjad Ali Jawa while addressing a 28-member delegation of 23rd Mid Career Management Course from National Institute of Management, Peshawar, at chamber here on Thursday.
LCCI Vice President Muhammad Nasir Hameed Khan, former president Sohail Lashari and former vice president Aftab Ahmed Vohra also spoke on the occasion. Sharing views on economic challenges, energy shortage, federal budget, trade deficit, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and millennium development goals, Ali Jawa said LCCI aims to promote trade & investment in the country through enacting upon the policies of the government and securing a business friendly environment in the country.
According to him, there are a number of issues that need to be tackled on priority; the biggest one is how to keep the momentum of growth in the wake of a less than targeted growth of agriculture and manufacturing sectors. The second one is the widening gap between exports and imports that could be contained by reducing import of luxury items.
Amjad Ali Jawa said that low input cost would make Pakistani products competitive in the international market. He stressed the need for developing regional, product specific and target-oriented marketing strategy. New markets and new products need to be explored to reduce country's dependence on few commodities and countries, he said.
He said that LCCI monitors the budget, anomalies are identified and these coupled with revised proposals are again communicated to the relevant policy making departments. He said that Labard is not only acting as placement body for the disabled sections of the society but also provides relevant training to the young minds in an effort to rehabilitate them.
