Peshawar and Hazara cemented their respective position for winning the overall trophy of the ongoing KP Under-23 Inter-Regional Male and Female Games (I-RM&FG) in progress at different venues. On the second day, there were tough resistances witnessed between the players of Peshawar and Hazara for winning the overall trophy. Besides Peshawar and Hazara regions, Mardan players made a key struggle to be in the game for the coveted trophy.
Peshawar defeated strong Mardan in the female squash event with both Pakistan's top squash players Komal Khan and Laiba Ijaz were instrumental for the team against Mardan and Hazara in the quarter-finals.
Komal, Laiba Ijaz, Maira Khan defeated Mardan's Maryum Shahid, Zohra and Kalsoom in straight sets. The match between Maira Khan and Kalsoom provided great thrill as both stretched to five sets, the score was 11-8, 9-11, 10-12, 12-10 and 11-9. Laiba beat Zohra by 3-0, the score was 11-6, 11-5 and 11-4 while Komal beat Maryum by 3-0, and the score was 11-6, 11-8 and 11-9.
In female athletics, Mardan stunned Peshawar by taking gold medal. Hasina of Mardan grabbed gold medal in 100m, 200m and 400m and was declared best athlete of the Games.
Kainat, also from Mardan, won gold medal in 800m, high jump and remained third in 400m, Sundas of Mardan grabbed gold medal in Javelin throw, followed by Aysha of Hazara and Sidra of Bannu. In the 4X100m relay Mardan won first position, followed by Peshawar and Hazara.
In the female hockey final, Peshawar defeated Mardan in the final by 1-0, while in the boys hockey Peshawar stunned Bannu by 5-1.
In the wrestling, Peshawar won four gold medals, two silver and one bronze by securing 65 points, followed by Hazara with 59 points where as Dera Ismail Khan got 56 points by taking third position respectively.
In the men Taekwondo, Dera Ismail Khan won first position, followed by Hazara and Kohat while Peshawar took fourth position.
In the cycling, Peshawar took first position.
In karate, Peshawar got first position. In judo, male Peshawar won seven gold medals. In the basketball, Hazara beat Mardan by 35-25. In the tug of war, Hazara defeated Kohat by 2-0.
At the end, the guests MPA Arif Yousaf, former World Champion Qamar Zaman, former international athlete Bahre Karam, Chairman Board Professor Dr Fazal Rehman, Controller of Examinations Hamid Ullah Marwat, former international athlete Manzar Khan, Director General Junaid Khan, Director Female Games Miss Rashida Ghaznavi, former Inspector General of Police Muhammad Saeed Khan gave away trophies and cash prizes to the winners and runners-up. The winners were awarded Rs 50,000 cash prize and runners-up were given Rs 30,000.
