Rejecting the demand of his opponents, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said that he would not resign or step down. Without naming Imran Khan, the PM said: "He [Imran] is asking for his resignation but I would not [resign] and continue to serve the masses." While addressing a public meeting in Okara and Shergarh, Nawaz said: "We are destined to serve the masses." He said Okara will be linked with a motorway soon.
He said a sum of 470 million rupees will be spent on provision of gas to Okara. Similarly, a sum of Rs 740 million is being spent on the construction of a flyover in the city besides improving roads at a cost of Rs 200 million. Nawaz said a 200-bed hospital is being upgraded to 500-bed to provide relief and facilities to patients. The Prime Minister also announced setting up of an industrial estate in Okara.
He said the government had launched a number of power projects to increase power supply in the country and promised to end load shedding by 2018. He said the PML-N government was serving the masses but the "elements" opposing its pro-public approach have been busy in pulling legs by launching public rallies against the government.
The premier said that political opponents have realised it very well that if the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government continued with a fast pace of development, their public presence would be squeezed forever. Nawaz said the previous governments have done nothing to alleviate the sufferings of masses and asked the people to question their inability to serve them.
He said the farming community was also being facilitated by his government with a cut in prices of fertilisers. Farmers are now getting power at reduced rates. He said the PML-N government is upgrading the railway system in the country and enhancing the speed of railways engines. Massive roads and motorways networks are being constructed throughout the country. Work on a six-lane motorway from Lahore to Multan is in progress which will further lead to Sukkur, Hyderabad and Karachi, he added.
The Prime Minister also promised that Renala-Shergarh road carpeting would be carried out. He announced grant for supply of gas to 100 villages and union councils of the area for redressal of basic issues. On the occasion, Abdul Razzak Niazi, a renowned politician of the area, joined the PML-N by reposing his complete confidence in the party leadership.
Earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated wheat harvesting campaign at Shergarh area of Punjab. He launched the campaign by cutting wheat plants with a traditional sickle. On this occasion, he was briefed about the figures of the wheat produced by Punjab and facilities being provided to the farmers.
