Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said that International Labour Day revives the memory of struggle of workers of Chicago in 1886 for their fundamental rights and sacrifices they offered in the attainment of their objectives.
In his message on International Labour Day, the Chief Minister said labourers and workers play a key role in strengthening of national economy and targets of development cannot be achieved without prosperity, empowerment and due respect of the workers.
He said Islam has declared the labourer as a friend of God and as such acknowledged his dignity. He said role of labourers and workers is very important in the progress and development of the country. The more the workforce will be empowered, the soon we achieve targets of development.
The Chief Minister said under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the PML-N government is paying full attention to the welfare and uplift of the workers' community, adding that workforce of the country has full potential to achieve the targets of development. He said thousands of youngsters have been imparted training under the Skill Development Program of Punjab government. Besides, 87,000 children of brick-kiln workers have been enrolled in different government-sponsored schools for providing them free education, he added.
Shehbaz stated that establishment of quality educational institutions for the children of labourers besides social security hospitals and labour colonies are a proof of labour-friendly policies of the Punjab government.
