Speakers among educationists, head teachers and civil society activists came together to contribute in educational status in district Matiari and emphasised that pro-active leadership role may increase girls' education. This was discussed in a closing ceremony of a 2-day leadership workshop organised by Sindh Community Foundation with support of Small Grants and Ambassador's Fund Program of USAID /NRSP, held at SAFWCO Hall.
The workshop was comprised on two days capacity building program on improving leadership and management skills of the 20 female head teachers and first assistants of 10 government girls high schools (GGHS) of district Matairi including GGHS Khyber, GGHS Matiari, GGHS Bhitshah, GGHS Bhanoth, GGHS Hala Old, GGHS Hala New, GGHS Jurio Khan Bkhar Jamali, GGHS Saeedabad New, GGHS Uderolal village and GGHS Udero Lal Station.
The workshop was facilitated by the female development practitioner and activist Zahida Detho who talked about various leadership concepts and the role of management in improving educational system at local level in schools. The participants were engaged in group work to identify various factors of low girls enrolment, retention and quality and also committed to improve through upgraded management and leadership skills.
They also highlighted poor staffing, lack of furniture and fixtures and lack of electricity. They also devised action plans to drive current enrolment cycle effectively. Chief guest Rasool Bux Shah, Director Higher Secondary Schools Hyderabad said in his speech that such capacity building programs nurture the potential of the head teachers to run school in very modern way with best teaching and good environment to meet the needs of modern teaching.
He emphasised that teacher must prove them as role model and friendly. He said that all sections of society need to play their part truly to work for improving girls education if we would fail history will not forgive us.
Head of Sindh Community Foundation Javed Soz was of the views that the poor leadership and management capacity of the female head teachers is also one of the core reasons of drop out and poor quality education in secondary schooling as the management practices are changed so head teachers should apply new management and leadership styles of the day to improve quality education in their schools. Punhal Sario social activist, Naeem Sheikh Co-ordinator RSU for Matiari district, Shahzad Ali Quershi and Kulsoom Jamali of SCF were also present and spoke at the accession.
