President Syed Mamnoon Hussain said the country was facing new challenges in education sector and more resources were required to meet ever-growing needs. While addressing the 8th convocation of the Virtual University here on Tuesday, the President said that IT has changed the world and the IT field would become more important when China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects would materialize.
He stressed the need for more IT graduates in coming days and urged the educational institutions to pay attention to produce more IT experts. "The universities will have to produce graduates who can play a key role in future projects like the CPEC," he said.
In the past, he said, the education sector was ignored due to which literacy goals cannot be achieved and human resource development was affected. "Education is the only tool which creates sense of responsibility and encouraged youth to meet the challenges hitting the society," he said. "Virtual University is playing an important role in promotion of education in the country."
President Mamnoon expressed satisfaction that Virtual University has been fulfilling the needs of education successfully. "It's a matter of honour that this institution has been doing projects with UN for education." He hoped that this university would also sign memorandum of understandings with other international universities so that students could be equipped with modern skills and knowledge. President Mamnoon Hussain, who is also Chancellor of the university, gave away gold medals and shields to students who secured prominent positions in various fields. Earlier, Rector of Virtual Varsity Naveed A Malik highlighted the achievements of this institution and said that 6,245 students including 2,166 from Lahore campus were awarded degrees in different disciplines.
