Sindh High Court on Friday issued notices to Sindh Bar Council (SBC), Advocate General Sindh and others on a petition filed against alleged rampant corruption in SBC, provincial regulatory body of legal education and legal practice. The petition has been filed by former Vice Chairman SBC Barrister Salahuddin Ahmed. In his petition, Ahmed took the plea that he had resigned as Vice Chairman of the body due to rampant corruption in the Council.
He submitted that no audit has been carried out of the accounts of the Council for the last many years adding that the Council was doing nothing for improving legal education and training of new lawyers enrolled with it. He pleaded the court to order audit of the Council's accounts, besides taking action against those involved in corruption. After hearing preliminary arguments of the petitioner, the court issued notices to SBC, AG and others and adjourned further hearing till May 17. It is to be mentioned here that Sindh Bar Council is a statutory regulatory authority, which regulates legal educations and legal practice by lawyers.
