According to a press release issued here on Monday, Director General EPA, Dr Muhammad Bashir and District Administration of Peshawar constituted a joint monitoring team for inspection of marble units at Warsak Road and printing press in city area.
D.G. EPA had issued Environmental Protection Orders (EPOs) last month to 60 marble units and seven printing presses over noise pollution. The marble units were directed to stop activities due to discharge of untreated effluents and construct primary treatment plant, adds the press release. The joint monitoring team visited various marble units situated on Warsak Road and a total of 44 units were monitored.
Out of which 7 marble units were found in compliance of EPOs and 37 marble units were sealed due to non-compliance of EPOs. The other team visited different printing press machines at Jahngi Mohallah Qissa Khuwani Bazar, Peshawar for EPOs compliance. EPA issued seven EPOs to different printing press machine's owners. In their visit they found three printing presses closed permanently while the remaining four printing press owners requested for grace period of 24 hours for EPOs compliance from the District Administration of Peshawar.
