Dr Olena Bordilovska, associate professor, Institute of International Relations, Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University, Ukraine, has accused Russia of having intentions to destabilise and divide Ukraine. She was speaking at a roundtable discussion on 'Foreign Policy of Independent Ukraine, hosted by Pakistan Institute of International Affairs, at the PIIA's library, here on Monday. She further blamed Russia has different integrated projects for Ukraine that were aimed at restoring Russian Empire.
"Military aggression in Ukraine was just an element of Russia's hybrid warfare agenda to occupy the eastern part of the Ukraine," she said, citing that April 19, 2017 ruling of international court confirmed Russian Federation was part of the conflict in Donbas, Eastern Ukraine and that separatist movement was backed by Russian agencies.
Dr Olena Bordilovska further said that Ukraine spends 5% of its GDP on defence while Ukraine's army ranked 8th in Europe. She said Ukraine was eager to have membership in European Union (EU) on the principle of integration as per its defined foreign policy. She said Ukraine is reliable, peaceful and tolerant country as it had given up its nuclear potentials. She said Ukraine has free trade agreements with EU while European Parliament had voted for Ukraine regarding a visa-free regime with EU. She said Ukraine would continue to develop equally beneficial bilateral relations with different states in particular with the states of Middle East and Asia.
