Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Monday categorically said that Pakistan is pursuing the vision of peaceful neighbourhood but violation of borders and territorial integrity will not be tolerated. Talking to journalists after attending the 25th anniversary of Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan diplomatic relations, he said, "The country will not accept any border violation as this is our stated policy."
The statement from Aziz came after Afghan military's aggression last week on the border town of Chaman, in which 11 Pakistanis including a soldier were martyred while scores of others got injured. Afghan border police shelled villages in Chaman for 10 hours, prompting the Pakistani forces to retaliate. Aziz said that there will be no compromise on national security and anyone who resorts to such aggression will have to be ready for a similar treatment or even worse. He said peace in Afghanistan is imperative for peace in the region.
"We want peace in the region but attack on the civilians is not acceptable," he maintained. Earlier, speaking at the ceremony, he said that Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan enjoy cordial relations based on mutual respect and harmony. He stressed the need for promoting bilateral trade and investment.
