Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed to investigate the Panama Papers scandal on Thursday asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to submit asset details of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his son-in-law Captain Safdar (Retd). The JIT formed to probe corruption allegations against the Prime Minister and his sons wrote a letter to the Commission to provide the Prime Minister's asset details along with the details of his son-in-law Captain Safdar (Retd).
In the letter written to the ECP, the JIT asked for submission of details of the Prime Minister's assets from 2013 to 2016 within three days. The ECP has prepared the file pertaining to the asset information sought by the JIT, an official of ECP said. The JIT formed on the orders of the apex court has representatives of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI).
The Supreme Court of Pakistan has also granted permission to the members of the JIT to go on foreign trips, if they deem it necessary in the course of their investigation. The ECP has also sent the nomination papers of both the persons to the team to proceed with the investigations.
