Gunmen on motorbikes opened fire on construction workers, killing 10 in Gwadar, officials said on Saturday. "Two gunmen riding on motorbikes opened fire on a group of construction workers in Peshukan Ganz neighbourhood of Gwadar," local administration official Munir Zamari told AFP. "One worker sustained injuries and he is being treated at a local hospital," he added.
The incident was confirmed by another administration official Naeem Bazai, who said that all the workers were from Sindh province. A spokesman for Baloch Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the incident in a telephone call to AFP.
INP adds: According to Levies officials, unidentified gunmen on motorcycles opened indiscriminate fire on the labourers working at a road in Gwadar's Pishgan area, killing eight labourers on the spot, Levies sources confirmed. Two of the injured labourers died while they were being rushed to District Headquarters Hospital, they added. The assailants fled the scene after the attack..
Balochistan Home Minister Sarfaraz Bugti also confirmed the death toll while speaking to media persons. Condemning the incident, he said, "We will not bow down before terrorists." The slain labourers belonged to Sindh's Naushahro Feroze district. Their remains will be handed over to their family members later. Frontier Corps, police and Levies personnel have reached the spot and an investigation was under way. Meanwhile, head of the Edhi Welfare Organisation, Faisal Edhi, said their ambulances have departed from Karachi and will be bringing back the labourers' bodies. He added that the convoy includes a cold storage van.
