The federal government has threatened to withdraw paramilitary force from Punjab province if the director general (DG) Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) failed to explain reasons behind a raid conducted in a private housing society 'Top City' in Chowki Hameedan area of the federal capital, till May 22.
Sources said that following the directives of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Ministry of Interior had written a letter to the DG Rangers Punjab on May 15, asking him to explain the reasons behind the raid on a private housing scheme on May 12 in Islamabad but Punjab Rangers has not yet responded to the letter.
They said that the Ministry of Interior on May 17 again wrote a letter to him and threatened that federal government would withdraw Rangers from Punjab if the DG Rangers failed to respond to the letter till May 22. Sources further said that under the law, Rangers could not conduct any raid alone or without police. Rangers are bound to take approval from district administration before conducting any raid, they said.
Police sources said that Rangers had conducted raid on the private housing society on May 12 and had picked the housing society's owner Mooez Kunwar along with dozens of security guards. The raiding team claimed to have seized a large cache of weapons from the detainees. Sources said that Rangers had arrested Moeez Kunwar for his alleged links with the MQM founder.
