FAISALABAD: Punjab Seed Corporation (PSC) Regional Office sold over 40,000 bags of certified seed of wheat to growers in four districts of Faisalabad division.

The total sale target for the region was fixed 60,000 bags of wheat seed weighing 50 kg per bag by the authorities, Abdul Ghaffar, Assistant Director (Marketing) PSC told APP here Monday.

He said the price of each wheat bag had been fixed Rs 2,450.

He said the Punjab Seed Corporation was selling 8 varieties of wheat seeds --- Faisalabad-2008, Falaxy-2013, Punjab-2011, Sahar-2016, NN Gandum-I-2016, Johar-2016, Pakistan-3013 and Anaj-2017.

He said the most suitable varieties of wheat were Faisalabad-2008, Galaxy-2013, NN Gandum-I-2016 and Punjab-2011, adding the varieties had the capacity of maximum per acre yield.

About favorable weather, he said that wheat cultivation should be completed before November 20, adding that per acre produce of wheat would decrease gradually if cultivation of crop would be late.

Abdul Ghaffar said that at the time of sowing, farmers should apply one and a half bag of DAP fertilizer and at first watering 2-3 bags of Urea fertilizer. A bag of Sulphate of Potash (SOP) which is available in the market at about Rs 4000/per bag, can also be applied for getting good produce.

He further said that certified wheat seed was neat and clean and weeds grow less in the fields which can be killed by single spray.

However, he said that farmers should make pesticides' spray two to three times in case of more weeds grown in wheat fields.
