Idris Elba has been named People Magazine's 2018 Sexiest Man Alive. The 46-year-old actor appeared live from London on the ‘Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon’ on Monday where he was announced as this year's recipient by the weekly publication.

“Congratulations on being the sexiest man alive,” Fallon said. Elba replied, “It’s amazing! I’m really, really happy with that. Thank you so much People magazine for making me sexiest man in the world. My mum is going to be very, very proud”.

So what did Elba think when he first heard about his latest title? “I was like, ‘Come on, no way. Really?’” the actor tells PEOPLE magazine in this week’s cover story.

“Looked in the mirror, I checked myself out. I was like, ‘Yeah, you are kind of sexy today.’ But to be honest, it was just a nice feeling. It was a nice surprise — an ego boost for sure,” he added. The actor has also starred in Marvel's ‘Thor’ franchise and as Nelson Mandela in the film ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’.

Blake Shelton took the title in 2017, which sparked some mixed reactions online.
