The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) will establish nine mega centres with modern facilities to provide better services to masses. This was stated by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan here on Tuesday while inaugurating NADRA Mega Centre Lahore and Executive Passport Offices in Sargodha and Faisalabad.
He said that funds required for establishing these mega centres are generated by the NADRA and these will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Replying to a question, he said that there is no reason to place name of former president Asif Ali Zardari on the Exit Control List (ECL) as no case is registered against him.
He said that in Lahore NADRA Mega Centre, 200 employees will be deputed who will work in three shifts round the clock seven days a week. The minister said that he will soon interview competent officers for the appointment of new director general (DG) Federal Investigating Agency (FIA) after the retirement of Muhammad Amlish, the outgoing DG of FIA.
He said that the 12 executive passport offices will be established by September this year, adding that E-Passport System will also be launched soon. He said at present, 557 NADRA centres are operational in the country and transparency is being ensured at all levels.
He said that during the scrutiny process, thirty thousand passports were cancelled and over 175000 computerised national identity cards (CNICs) were blocked in the national interest. In reply to a question, the interior minister said that no CNIC or passport will be blocked without serving the holder with notice. He said that 10,000 CNICs have been recovered from Pakistan Origin Card (POC) holders. He said that all the blocked ID card and passport holders have right to file appeal. The minister said that the people whose passports have been cancelled reserve the right to file an appeal. "They can appeal to the district level committee, which consists of MNA and MPA of the area.
