Jemima Khan, the ex-wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, disclosed through a tweet on Thursday said that she has traced 15-year-old money trail for purchase of Bani Gala residence. "Finally tracked down 15-year-old bank statements to prove Imran Khan's money trail/ innocence in the court. Now please go after the real crooks...," Jemima tweeted. The tweet by Jemima Khan which became a top trend on social media also relieved Imran Khan who in a tweet, stated: "Allah is Al Haq."
The tweet by Jemima had over 17,000 likes and over 9,846 re-tweets within a short span of only six hours. Following the statement, PTI's official Twitter account also posted that the money trail has been established and the case demolished, although the court has yet to decide the matter.
Imran's ex-wife help came after PTI's counsel had admitted before the Supreme Court that it was an omission on the part of his client that he did not disclose his offshore company in his asset details submitted before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
When the SC's three-judge bench on Wednesday resumed hearing of a petition seeking the PTI chief's disqualification, counsel Naeem Bukhari contended if the apex court declares that Imran was obliged to declare his offshore company then it should be considered an 'omission' not 'dishonesty'.
The top court had initiated looking into Imran's money trail after Hanif Abbasi, a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader, filed a petition seeking disqualification of the PTI chief for 'illegal possession' of properties and 'tax evasion.' "We will do everything - like summoning the record or asking for a detailed probe - to find out the truth," remarked Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on May 25 last.
