Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Najam Ahmad Shah visited Surgical Tower, Mayo hospital and directed to accelerate the pace of work to accomplish the project by 30th June. Secretary Health took a detail round of the under construction building which is in final phase of its completion.
He directed the Project Manager Ali Khan to monitor the civil work on daily basis. He also directed to hire the services of consultants for third party validation. While talking to the media, the secretary said that speedy work is being carried out on this project for the last one year. H e added that the Surgical Tower is consisting of 380 beds, 16 operation theaters.
This project will be completed at a cost of Rs 2.60 billion out of which 1500 million would be spent on medical equipment including MRI and CT scan machines. Moreover, SNE of 1170 posts has already been approved and an addition 232 posts of SNE would be approved very soon. The project director Professor Abrar Ashraf said that purchase orders have been placed for the procurement of MRI, CT scan and the vendor would supply these costly machines within 90 days.
Najam Shah directed that schedule of completion of each floor should be given and round the clock civil work must be carried out so that the state-of-the-art Surgical Tower could be operationalised within the current year. Additional Secretary development Irfan Ali Khan, Chief Planning officer Abdul Haq Bhatti, Pro Vice Chancellor KEMU Professor, Qazi Saeed, Project Director Professor, Ibrar Ashraf, Project Manager PMU. Ali Khan, MS Mayo Hospital Dr Tahir Khalil, officers of C&W department and the contractors were also present on this occasion.
