In pursuance of the national development goals, the government of Sindh is giving highest priority to the energy sector. Realizing this in 2013, a new department ie Energy was created by the provincial government to serve as a pivot point for all activities related to coal, oil & gas, renewables, transmission, and conservation. We acknowledge that development of all other sectors of economy heavily rely on the performance of energy sector.
A developing country like Pakistan can only rely on indigenous fuels in order to save the precious foreign exchange and ensure energy security. The Government of Sindh has developed comprehensive "Energy Policy" to meet growing energy needs through affordable and local resources.
STDC is one such initiative of the government of Sindh. First ever by any province in country, It will bring new capabilities to the skill set of the energy department. STDC is a model for other provinces and will also augment the large scale work being done by NTDC at the federal level.
The economic activity generated by such endeavours will certainly bring socio economic benefits for the people of Sindh. I am confident that the project companies will adhere to the corporate social responsibility framework and socio-economic plan approved by the government.
I congratulate the Energy department, BoD and management of the Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company and all other stakeholders of the project. I strongly believe that Sindh, being the energy capital of Pakistan, will power the socio-economic development of the country in the years to come.
