Successive power outages over the last few days was a clear manifestation of forced closures, which means the distribution companies (DISCOs) are not following the load shedding schedule, said power sector experts. Many areas of the province, particularly the rural ones, plunged into darkness during Sehr timings. The power consumers had no option but to continue with Sehri arrangements in darkness.
It is pertinent to mention here that the government had vowed to hold four hours a day load shedding urban and six hours a day load shedding in rural areas. The gravity of the problem can be judged from the fact that the prime minister had expressed his intention of carrying out third party audit of power sector. The energy experts said this announcement from the prime minister suggests that he had no confidence on the DISCOs in power distribution therefore he has decided to hold third party audit.
