Khyber Contractors Association (KCA) has announced the boycott from taking part in contract bids in Khyber Agency and demanded immediate replacement of the Xen public health engineering department Khyber Agency otherwise the contractors would stop working on all ongoing developmental schemes.
Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday Khyber Contractors Association President Badshah Khan Afridi said that Xen Adnan of PHED had kept all the tenders pending, forcing the contractors to pay additional five percent commission. He said that whenever a tender was floated in media, the Xen used to keep the tenders pending unless it got kickbacks from different relevant companies/ firms.
"We are ready to pay the commission fixed by government in different contracts but the Xen has started exploitation of the people which is not acceptable to us," he said adding that if the contractors started paying additional commissions they would go bankrupt and would be unable to run their businesses.
Flanked by other office bearers of the association including Suhbat Khan Afridi, Muhammad Younus, Gul Ahmed, Siddique Afridi, the association president informed that the contractors had started the boycott from the contract bids from June 7, 2017 and would not take part in the process unless relevant officials assured them of solution to their demands.
Similarly, Suhbat Khan said that the people of Khyber Agency had heavily suffered due to militancy and military operations during the past many years and if development work in different sectors was not initiated the locals would face many problems. He said that only reason for delay in the uplift schemes was the Xen public health engineering department who is employing delaying tactics in awarding contracts.
He demanded of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra to take notice of the wrongdoings of the PHED officials, help release the pending funds and awarding of the contracts to the contractors without further delay.
