In order to facilitate the bereaving families in the times of distress, Punjab government has formulated Shehr-e-Khamoshan (graveyard) Authority. Each graveyard/crematorium formulated by this authority will provide all burial related services effectively under one roof with just one phone call"
This was disclosed by Director General Strategic Reforms Unit, Shehr-e-Khamoshan Authority Salman Sufi here on Wednesday. He said that Shehr-e-Khamoshan (Graveyard) Authority has been conceptualised as technocratic structure that aims to facilitate the bereaving families in times of distress. Salman Sufi said that the Punjab Shehr-e-Khamoshan Authority (PSKA) is composed of a total of 13 members, headed by Khawaja Ahmad Hassan as the Chairperson of the Authority.
Sufi further explained that since the conceptualisation of the Shehr-e-Khamoshan Project has been done by the office of the Strategic Reforms Unit, Director General SRU, Salman Sufi has been given the additional charge as the DG of the Authority to ensure the smooth establishment and operationalization of the authority in its initial phase. He said that, additionally, the authority will have three representatives of the provincial assembly. The three MPA's nominated for these posts are Malik Muhammad Ali Khokhar, Chaudhry Faqeer Hussain Dogar and Ms Syeda Uzma Qadri. Maulana Raghib Naeemi will serve as a religious technocrat for the authority while Tariq Ullah Sufi and Ms. Syeda Nazar will be the two philanthropists on the authority board.
Salman Sufi said that the ex-officio members of the authority board are Secretary Local Government and Secretary Finance Department. The authority will also have Director Architecture for future Shehr-e-Khamoshaan projects as well as an Administrative Director to overlook the workings of the authority.
He said that total of 10 advisory members have been notified by the Chief Minister in order to facilitate the authority board with the on-ground execution of the graveyards. These include; Chairman P&D Board, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Mayor Gunjranwala, Rawalpindi and two Deputy Mayors of Lahore. Secretary C&W, Secretary Auqaaf and Additional IG will also be a part of the advisory board. The Punjab Shehr-e-Khamoshan Authority is a brainchild of the Chief Minister's Strategic Reforms Unit and has been formulated with the sole purpose of facilitating citizens by providing them with comprehensive burial and cremation services.
