A leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, demanding removal of chairman National Accountability Bureau in light of apex court's observations that NAB has failed to investigate Panama Papers case. In a letter written to the Prime Minister, PTI leader Andleeb Abbas said that chairman NAB does not fulfill the prerequisite for the slot as he is also accused in corruption cases filed with the Bureau.
According to her, NAB chairman should be a grade-22 retired officer, but Qamar Zaman was elevated to the position by the government when he was yet to be retired. She said the apex court has also expressed dissatisfaction over his performance in Panama Leaks case, which clearly shows that he does not deserve the coveted slot as the institution under him has failed to do anything to go after the corrupt. "How a chairman against whom there are corruption cases in the NAB can make others accountable, and in such a situation, his [NAB chairman] removal is a must," she maintained.
