This is apropos a news item carried by Business Recorder on 16th June 2017 under the caption "Thousands of tons of sugar stuck at Chaman". Ministry of Commerce would like to clarify that contrary to the impression created in the news story, there is no delay on the part of Ministry of Commerce in issuance of the notification for extension in deadline for export of sugar as approved by the ECC of the Cabinet on June 7, 2017.
"The Ministry of Commerce has so far not received the official approval of the ECC''s decision dated June 7, 2017. As per rules the notification can be issued after the official approval of the decision of the ECC". It is also incorrectly reported in the news item that the Prime Minister''s Special Assistant on Revenue, ''Haroon Akhtar Khan has also approached the Commerce Minister and asked for immediate issuance of the new notification'' as the SAPM is aware that there is no delay on the part of the Ministry of Commerce in the issuance of notification. "Ministry of Commerce has been proactively following up for an early approval of the ECC''s decision. The notification will be issued as soon as the approved decision is received in the Ministry of Commerce," the press release concluded.
