Eight Basic Health Units (BHUs) administered by Peoples Primary Health Care Initiatives (PPHI) have been shifted to solar energy in first phase while five more BHUs and Rural Health Centre Bhit Shah would be shifted in second phase. This was informed by PPHI District Manager Mityari Khalil Ahmad Saraz through a letter written to Deputy Commissioner Mityari. Deputy Commissioner appreciating the initiative taken by the PPHI administration has termed it a remarkable achievement for uninterrupted supply of power to health facilities.
He added that day to day public as well as private affairs were badly suffering due to prolonged power outages and even health facilities were not spared which provide basic service to the ailing people. "The measures taken by PPHI Mityari for solarization of medical facilities are highly appreciable for provision of treatment to patients in conducive environment as power outages had badly affected the over all life of common people specially the institutions providing basic public services including health sector," he added.
Initially solarization of eight Basic Health Units (BHUs) of Sekhat, Odero Lal, Khandu, Faqir Nooh Hothiani, Hala Old, Bhanoth, Karam Khan Nizamani and Panjmoro in first phase of intervention has been completed and these units are enjoying uninterrupted power supply at present, stated PPHI District Manager in a letter.
Khalil Ahmad Saraz said that after installation of solar system items like ILR (ICE Lined Refrigerator) for Immunisation, Ultrasound Machine, Haematology Analyser, Chemistry Analyser, Centrifuge Machine, Nebulizer, 11 fans and 21 LED lights will continuously run without any interruption, which will certainly have its positive impact upon over all outcome of the health service delivery.
He further informed that in second phase of intervention a major scheme for Solarization of Rural Health Centre Bhit Shah and 5 more Basic Health Units would be carried out. Saraz added that after converting various health facilities into round the clock maternal and Child Health Centres (which contain Labs, Ultrasound and immunisation services as well), provided various methods of alternate energy, such as generators, UPS etc; however, uninterrupted power supply has always remained a great challenge at all levels.
To tackle the disuniting challenge of power outages a decision of installation of quality solar system throughout the province and similarly at health facilities of Mityari was taken by PPHI Sindh Chapter administration, Khalil Saraz told. He informed that for solarization system the Solar Panels were imported from Germany and other gadgets from standard genuine quality companies having professional expertise in installation of solar system.
