Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will consult its legal experts about the Supreme Court's verdict on Hussain Nawaz's application to see whether or not it should pursue the matter further on a legal forum. Talking to media persons outside the Supreme Court, PML-N MNA Talal Chaudhry said that his party respects the state institutions and will continue to do so, but has legal right to raise its questions on conduct of the Joint Investigation Team.
"We will closely look into this decision and consult our legal experts for a legal recourse, if need be," he said, adding that his party fully respects the superior judiciary. Hussain Nawaz had filed the application before the Supreme Court regarding video recording of the witnesses appearing before the Joint Investigation Team as the law does not allow it, he said.
"Pakistan doesn't have a law to permit video recording and that's why we had moved the court for it," he said, adding, "It was our constitutional and legal right to do this."
"If this video recording was not allowed, the photo of Hussain Nawaz had not been leaked," he said, adding the leakage was first blamed on the Sharif family, but later it was accepted by the JIT in the court. "We are proved right in our allegation that the photo was leaked by the JIT," he added. Dispelling the impression of not respecting the institutions, he said that his party has always respected the superior judiciary and other state institutions.
"Our legal team will closely look at the court's decision, as the video recording is not allowed under the law, and decide whether or not to take up at proper legal forum," he said. "It is our basic right to know about the person who committed this crime (leakage of Hussain Nawaz's photo)," he said, adding that his whereabouts and motive should be made public.
Talal Chaudhry said that his party has already expelled Nehal Hashmi for his remarks against the judiciary. Criticising PTI chairman, he said that he should not try to become spokesman of the Supreme Court as he is already declared a proclaimed offender by the court.
"You (Imran Khan) should first surrender before the law and then talk about the rule and supremacy of law," he said. He said that two so-called social activists have also sent an application to Speaker National Assembly seeking disqualification of the party's eight members for running a campaign against the judiciary. Talking to media persons outside the Supreme Court, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry said that Hussain Nawaz's photo leakage does not have any impact on the ongoing investigations against the Sharif family.
He said that a smearing campaign is being run against the JIT and Supreme Court under the garb of the photo leak. "It seems like that a consistent effort is being made by the PML-N to derail democracy in the country," he said, adding his party has been struggling for supremacy of the institutions. Chaudhry also accused the PML-N of trying to derail the whole system through its smear campaign. "PTI will keep struggling for civil supremacy in the country," he said, adding the PML-N does not believe in democracy and rule of law.
