Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) Senator Rehman Malik Wednesday said that he will share the 'facts' related to Hudaibiya Paper Mills case with the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the Panama Papers case. Speaking at a news conference, the former interior minister said that he was examining the documents related to Hudaibiya Paper Mills and will appear before the JIT as former additional director of FIA and not as a leader of PPPP. He said the party has decided that the case would not be politicized.
Malik has been summoned by the JIT to appear on June 23 to record his statement in connection with his report on Hudaibiya Paper Mill. The probing team has asked him to bring a verified copy of his report, commonly known as the Rehman Malik report, along with all relevant record, documents and material. Malik as an additional director Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in 1998 had prepared a detailed and documented report, which ostensibly established the money trail through which Nawaz Sharif purchased his properties in the names of his children, which he had submitted to the then President Rafiq Tarar in September 1998.
"The investigations into Hudaibiya Paper Mills case were conducted in two stages and I made all the correspondence and prepared the reports as an FIA officer," Malik said, adding he would appear before the JIT in any case despite the fact that he is being threatened.
He said he is aware of all the details of the Hudaibiya Paper Mill and will share the same with the JIT. He also rejected the impression that he has taken instructions from the party leadership on Hudaibiya Paper Mills case. "I am not going to take revenge from anybody but will only present the facts before the JIT," he added. He also dispelled the impression that there is any "muk muka" between Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, adding the Charter of Democracy has nothing to do with the legal matters like Hudaibiya Paper Mill case.
