Like other parts of the country Youm-ul-Quds and Jumatul-Wida (last Friday of holy month of Ramazan) was observed with religious enthusiasm in the federal capital amid tight security arrangements. People offered Friday prayers in mosques wherein the faithful offered special prayers for peace, security and prosperity of the country.
They also offered prayers for Muslim unity. The religious scholars in their sermons highlighted the significance of the holy month of Ramazan, fasting, Aitekaf and Jumatul Wida. They urged Muslims to get maximum benefits from them and seek forgiveness from Almighty Allah.
Youm-ul-Quds is observed to express solidarity with the people of Palestine and oppose Israel's control of Jerusalem. A procession was taken out from G-6/4 Imambargah Asna-e-Ashri in connection with Youm-ul-Quds which culminated at Fazl-e-Haq Road after passing through various routes.
A large number of people including activists of Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) and Imamia Students Organisation (ISO) took part in the procession. The participants of the procession were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans like 'down with America, down with Israel.' They strongly condemned the Israeli aggression against the innocent people of Palestine.
The city police deployed 2,500 personnel at mosques and Imambargahs as well as exit and entry points of the federal capital on the occasion. Heavy contingents of police were deployed along with rallies in various areas of the city to ensure security of the participants. The security officials and members of mosque committees checked people with metal detectors prior to Friday prayers. The Islamabad capital territory administration used walkthrough gates and metal detectors for checking of people at Faisal Mosque.
