Sindh Excise, Taxation & Narcotics (ET&N) Department Saturday claimed to have achieved a milestone while maintaining 108 percent tax recovery during fiscal year 2016-17. According to details, the department has collected Rs 56.926 billion from July 2016 to June 2017 as against Rs 47.457 billion collected during last preceding period.
The figures were disclosed during departmental meeting chaired by Provincial Excise Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla along with Secretary Excise and Taxation & Narcotics Control Abdul Haleem Shaikh and Director General Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui at his office. DG Shoaib Siddiqui informed during meeting that as compared to previous year Rs 9.468 billion more were collected while around Rs 6010.873 millions were received in term of motor vehicle tax, Rs 40604.825 millions as infrastructure cess from July 2016 to June 2017.
He added that some Rs 1894.608 millions were collected on account of property tax, Rs 357.024 million as professional tax while remaining amount was collected in the heads of other taxes such cotton fee, entertainment duty etc. Provincial Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla said that it was a matter of great pleasure that we had got 108 per cent tax targets and hoped that it would continue in next year. He also directed Secretary Excise and director general to award cash prizes and appreciation certificates to the officers who performed efficiently in recovery of the taxes.
