Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Tuesday congratulated the newly-appointed FBR Chairman Tariq Mahmood Pasha and expressed optimism that he would help resolve economic issues and challenges. LCCI President Abdul Basit, Senior Vice President Amjad Ali Jawa and Vice President Muhammad Nasir Hameed Khan in their joint statement said that trust deficit had been widened between the business community and the Federal Board of Revenue from the last couple of years that negatively impacted the business environment.
Tariq Mahmood Pasha assumed the charge as FBR Chairman at a critical time when businessmen are worried because of abuse of discretionary powers by the FBR staff. The business community wants to supplement government's endeavors aimed at economic revival, they said, and invited the new chairman to visit Lahore Chamber to share his future plans with the business community.
The FBR chairman needs to take unusual strides to expedite the refund cases pending with the Board. As a result, huge amount of liquidity of the businessmen is stuck up with the FBR. They hoped that the newly-appointed chairman would review all the controversial SROs issued in the recent past in the larger interest of the economy, they said.
