Ahmedpur tragedy: oil tanker lacked Ogra's safety standards

Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) on Thursday said the oil tanker that caught blaze in Ahmedpur Sharqia and burned more than 200 people lacked safety standards. The tanker rented from Shell Oil Company was half empty when the mishap took place whereas its design was also inappropriate.
The report further declared 50 percent oil tankers as dangerous due to not fulfilling safety standards designated by Ogra. On the other hand, Supreme Court (SC) Karachi registry heard a case pertaining to transfer oil tankers outside Karachi and gave a week deadline after which proper action will be taken against the violators.
