Opposition leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah while chairing a meeting of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif must resign in the light of report submitted by joint investigation team (JIT) in Panama Papers case. Shah said that after the submission of JIT report, the Prime Minister must ensure a peaceful democratic transition of power in the history of the country.
Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) leader said the Prime Minister should resign as now the Parliament is in danger and he is concerned over the way the government is reacting to the issue. The PAC also grilled the chairman Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) for not appearing before the panel which had to discuss and review important audit paras related to WAPDA of year 2015-16. The panel issued show cause notice to the chairman WAPDA over his absence and the chief executives of power distribution companies.
After the meeting, president Awami Muslim League (AML) Sheikh Rashid and Khursheed Shah exchanged lighter arguments. Rashid said that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has a total of 188 members of National Assembly (MNAs) of whom 35 are women and six minority members, adding that 62 sitting MNAs of ruling party are turncoats of Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q). He said that he will ask them to rejoin their former party.
He maintained that after the findings of JIT, majority of PML-Q members who joined the PML-N will surely resign from the party. He said if this happens, the Prime Minister will have no majority in the National Assembly and, thus, consequently be forced to resign.
"For the sake of the country, I ask Nawaz Sharif to step down. He has lost all moral, political and legal authority to rule the country. This situation has resulted in a political funeral for him and his family," the AML leader remarked. Rashid said now the PML-N's game is over and called back the aides of former President Pervez Musharraf who currently are Nawaz Sharif's associates.
Shah asked the president AML if this is so, call back also the people who have joined the PTI but Rashid said he has collected the record of only those who had joined the PML-N.
