Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair has assured the business community that he would discuss their tax-related issues with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to seek their speedy resolution. Speaking at an Eid Milan Party hosted by All Pakistan Customs Agents Association (APCAA) he said that he always tried to facilitate business community and discuss their issues with the Prime Minister time and again.
Moreover, he assured that he would discuss issues relating to pending tax refunds and double taxation with Nawaz Sharif. He said tax-related issues would also be resolved soon like Karachi's law and order situation did.
"Pakistan has gained a lot during last four years and the figures of tax collection are depicting 100 per cent growth as compared to the past revenue collections," he said, adding that out of total revenue collection, 60 percent was transferred to the provincial exchequers hence we hoped that provinces would now spend largely on energy, water, education and health sectors.
He said that political events always affected masses but we have begun believing in the constitutionalism and have been matured enough to support parliamentary system after adopting almost every system. S.M. Muneer, leader of the United Business Group urged the Sindh Governor to pay heed on the issues relating to business community as businesses were about to close, due to government's unfriendly attitude.
"We are ready to work with the government but they should take business community on board for economic revival," he said, adding that tax refunds amounting Rs 350 billion were pending for long, creating liquidity issues for them.
Muneer further said that the government had announced Rs 180 billion package for the business community in January but only Rs 1 billion has so far been disbursed. He said some Rs 3 billion were also allocated in the budget. He asked when the remaining amount of the package would be released.
Arshad Jamal, senior vice chairman, APCAA, in his welcome speech said that APCAA was the only representative body of customs clearing agents across the country and it was registered body under Directorate General Trade Organization.
He said that APCAA had highly competent team of experts for conducting researches especially on tax reforms and the suggestions extracted from these researches are always sent to the concerned authority for the best upshot. He also appreciated Sindh Governor, S.M. Muneer and others for their support to APCAA for making this event a success.
Chaudhary Amjad, chairman, APCAA, urged the Sindh Governor to take agents' tax-related issues personally as it was creating devastated impact on their businesses. Later, acting president FPCCI, Aamir Ata Bajwa, Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Khalid Tawab and Urooj Fatima, senior vice chairman, APCAA, on diplomatic and international affairs, also spoke.
