The Punjab police claimed on Thursday to have dismissed 41 police officials from service on charges of dereliction, non-professionalism and non-serious behaviour besides initiating an inquiry against 70 officials on charges of 'abuse of power'. In a statement, the spokesman for the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab said that SSP Headquarters (SPU) Farooqabad, Syed Ali Mohsin, has also ordered to register FIRs against 70 officers in Farooqabad police station under the Police Order 2002.
He claimed that around 111 police officials of the Special Protection Unit (SPU) have also been terminated over non-professionalism and 'serious irregularities'. "The motive of the SPU was to provide foolproof security to the foreigners working on different public sector projects in Punjab and CPEC-related projects. Therefore, there is no space for the 'negligent' officials in this sensitive unit," said the SSP Headquarters in a statement. He also vowed not to tolerate 'crestfallen' policemen in future.
