RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi district is ranked top for carrying out anti-polio and anti measles drive efficiently across the province, said Deputy District Health Officer Dr Zeeshan here Sunday.

Talking to APP,he said that no polio case has been detected in the Punjab while environmental samples for polio virus has been tested positive consecutively in Rawalpindi for which micro plan is being made on scientific basis.

The DDO said that Deputy Commissioner has directed the District Health Authority to set up committees comprising on elected representatives,Ulema and Police Officials to address the issue of refusal cases in order to ensure that all children must be vaccinated during the anti-polio to be started from November 12 to 16.

He said that Extended programme of Immunization(EPI) centers are being set up at union council level for anti-polio campaign. Dr Zeeshan said that special attention is being given to those areas of the district which have been marked by the World Health Organization(WHO) as low performing.

He said polio is a National issue and it is responsibility of all to play an effective role to make the country polio free. He told that with the coordinated efforts of Government and WHO, polio workers have been trained to accomplish the target set of vaccinating 8,48,250 children below five years of age.

Dr Zeeshan informed that 2333 mobile teams,287 fixed points,119 transit points,221 Union council medical officers and 496 area incharges would administer polio drops to above 848,250 children less than five years in the district. During the drive ,he said that no vaccinator,medical officer and polio Incharge at UC level would be transferred. The DDO said along-with all government initiatives, active participation of parents is needed to make the campaign successful.
