Prime Minister Imran Khan's Special Assistant on Accountability Shahzad Akbar revealed on Monday that they had traced assets worth $5.3 billion in 10 countries, which had been acquired through fake accounts and money laundering.

He said this while addressing a joint news conference with PM's Special Assistant on Media Iftikhar Durrani and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Senator Faisal Javed Khan in Islamabad. The head of Asset Recovery Unit said they had found more than 5,000 fake accounts that were allegedly used for money laundering.

Akbar further said that Pakistan has become the third biggest country, whose citizens own lands in Dubai. He warned that those who have money stashed in Dubai and European banks will not stay hidden anymore. He said that with the help of Dubai authorities, further details of Iqama holders were also being collected.

Durrani also addressed the media and said that there was $15 billion worth of properties owned by Pakistanis in Dubai alone. He said they will share the details of the cases will be made public after corruption references have been filed. He said that accountability will continue no matter what anyone says.
