Heat waves are likely to grip the metropolis during the next two days despite a partly cloudy weather with chances of drizzle, the Met Office said on Monday. A maximum temperature is expected up to 34 degrees Celsius with 85 percent humidity in the air on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Met said that partially cloudy weather is expected to trigger drizzle in the city.
"Monsoon currents are penetrating southern and upper parts of the country and likely to continue in upper parts during next few days," it said, forecasting rain-thunderstorm with isolated heavy falls and gusty winds for scores of divisions in Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, Upper Punjab, Islamabad, FATA and Kashmir on Tuesday.
It said that rainy spell with strong winds is likely to hit Zhob, Kalat, Sibbi, Quetta, Naseerabad, Makran, Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sargodha and Faisalabad Divisions in particular in the next 24 hours. Over the past 24 hours, rain-thunderstorm struck scattered places in Islamabad, Upper Punjab, Upper Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, Upper FATA, Lower Sindh and Kashmir. Rain fell at isolated places of Quetta, Zhob, Makran, Sahiwal and D.G.Khan Divisions besides Gilgit-Baltistan.
Maximum rainfall was recorded in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa where Kakul received 50 mm, Malamjabba 35 mm, Balakot 21 mm and Parachinar 5mm. In Punjab, Gujrat received 39 mm, Mandi Bahauddin 35 mm, Jhelum 31 mm, Islamabad (Saidpur 29, Zero Point 19 mm, Golra 7 mm), Rawalpindi (Shamsabad 23 mm, Chaklala 5 mm), Mangla 23 mm, Kasur 21 mm, Sialkot (Airport 11 mm), Mianwali 8 mm, Lahore (Punjab University 7 mm), Okara 6 mm and Joharabad 5 mm. In Kashmir, maximum rain fell Kotli with 37 mm, Garidupatta 7 mm, and Muzaffarabad 5 mm. In Balochistan, Lasbella 12 mm, Barkhan, Zhob 10 mm and Ormara 5 mm and in Sindh, Karachi recorded 5 mm of rainfall at its Gulshan-e-Hadeed observatory.
