At least Six people died when a building collapsed in Liaquatabad area on early Tuesday morning. According to an official, most of the residents in the apartment building were sleeping when it collapsed. Area people said that the building's structure was deteriorated. Rescuers struggled to pull survivors out of the rubbles of the three-storey building. They recovered 5 bodies from the debris. A 13-year-old boy was among the dead. The bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Officials said that rescuers also pulled at least nine injured people out of the rubbles. They were also taken to hospital for treatment. Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar visited the scene of mishap. He lambasted the local building department for failing to enforce construction codes.
