Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government has alleged that opposition is taking advantage of the Panama Papers case while twisting facts. Talking to media persons outside the Supreme Court building on Thursday, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Marriyum Aurangzeb alleged that the political opponents used the Panama Papers case as a 'political crutch' to further their own agendas.
She said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will fight till last to uphold sanctity of the mandate given to him by the people of Pakistan. "This case is all about lust for power and is based on lies," Aurangzeb said. "Nawaz Sharif has no link with any corruption case and he will fight for the nation till the last moment," she claimed.
"None of the allegations levelled against the Prime Minister is proved in the court through evidence," she claimed. Efforts are being made everyday to find evidence against the Prime Minister but to no avail, she added. The minister of state said that the Prime Minister is contesting case for supremacy of the law and Constitution by presenting himself and his family for accountability.
She claimed there is no case of corruption or misuse of authority against the Prime Minister. This case has links with progress and prosperity of the country, implementation on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), mandate of the electorates and elimination of terrorism, she added. "We are hopeful that the court will dismiss petitions filed by those who just want to create a circus," the minister predicted. Lashing out at Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, the minister expressed concerns over his "mental health."
"He tries to mislead the Pakistani nation every day," she claimed. "Imran Khan is the one who took help from the Jewish and Indian lobbies to obtain funding for the PTI," she alleged. The minister claimed that there is no proof of corruption against Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif in any public project, adding that the Sharif family has presented 50-year old records to clear its name from false allegations. "The Pakistani nation and Supreme Court will dismiss those insulting the court and institutions," she said, claiming that all documents presented by the Sharif family are verified.
Meanwhile, State Minister for Water & Power Abid Sher Ali reiterated that Imran Khan studied abroad using funds generated from corruption of his father. He said, "We will not let chaos to be awash in the country. Nawaz Sharif laid the foundation of development works in Pakistan."
