In an effort to strength its relationship with Apple, automobile company Volkswagen is introducing a new feature where owners can interact with their vehicles via Siri.

Volkswagen is taking a new step to deepen its partnership with Apple on its VW Car-Net app that will let iOS users to now use Siri to control their vehicle. They can lock and unlock their car, estimate mileage with the fuel or charge left in their vehicle, and enable the Flash or Honk & Flash commands. Owners would just have to say to their iPhones, ‘Hey Siri, lock my car’, and the car will do the job.

VW users can also use Siri to start and stop a charging session for their electric car or to turn on the defroster. The app can able be used to set a specific temperature, locate their car, set a geofence for it, and a ‘where is my car’ command, reported Volkswagen.

Users can also set up routines using the Siri’s Shortcuts feature that was introduced with iOS 12. The Siri Shortcuts feature is required for this new VW functionality. Moreover, Car-Net isn’t free for all VW owners. The app costs a specific subscription fee per month for users.

“We are constantly looking at innovative ways to make VW Car-Net more convenient and relevant for our customers. With Siri Shortcuts, creating voice commands to use with our mobile app was a great opportunity to do just that! Integration with Siri helps our drivers keep eyes on the road and hands on the wheel,” said Abdallah Shanti, EVP, Global Chief Information Officer Volkswagen Brand & Car-IT.
