Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Arif Nawaz Khan has said that it is a matter of honour and pride for him for being the commander of a force which is heir of more than 1400 martyrs. The IGP said this while addressing a ceremony titled 'National Police Shuhda Day' held here on Friday.
The ceremony was arranged by Lahore police in order to mark the day and pay tributes to martyrs of Punjab police who lost their lives in the line of duty. He said that a DIG rank officer has been deputed at the Central Police Office (CPO) to look after the welfare initiatives for the families of the martyrs and to solve their problems at their door step while a DSP rank officer has also been deployed at district level for this purpose.
The IG said they had also introduced a mobile application namely 'welfare-eye' in the provincial metropolis which enables the aggrieved family to report their issues online. Arif Nawaz said that the problems of martyred families are being solved through this App and they have a plan to replicate this App throughout Punjab.
Sports Minister Punjab Jahangir Khanzada attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Provincial Minister Zakia Shah Nawaz, senior journalist Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami, Zia Shahid, Wasif Nagi, Raees Ansari, lawyers, teachers and people belonging to every walk of life also attended the ceremony.
Jahangir Khanzada said the morale of Punjab police is very high and they are fighting against the anti-social elements of the country vigorously. "As a citizen of Pakistan, it is my promise that we will fight against terrorism in the country till out last breath," the minister said.
