The paramilitary Rangers on Saturday rebutted former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain's claim of being heavily drugged during the investigation process. During an interview to a private TV channel on Friday, Dr Asim had claimed that he was under the influence of drug before video recording of his confessional statement. He said he did not remember what he had said during the interrogation.
Spokesperson for Sindh Rangers categorically refuted the claim, terming Dr Asim's statement as "untrue and contrary to facts." "The accused has never hurled such allegations during the custody and court proceedings," the Spokesperson added.
The spokesperson further stated that, "The former minister is currently released on bail in different cases." Dr Asim, Former president Asif Ali Zardari's close aide, is accused of providing shelter and treatment to target killers and terrorists in Ziauddin Hospital that he owns.
He was released from a sub-jail set up for him at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre on March 31 after more than 19 months in detention. In his confessional video statement released in June last year, Dr Asim levelled serious allegations against the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leadership and Owais Muzaffar alias Tappi.
