Three-day 18th International Pure Mathematics Conference (IPMC) was concluded on Sunday in Islamabad. The conference was participated by 55 speakers, 110 participants, 9 keynote speakers including 4 foreign mathematicians. Professor Dr Masoom Yasin Zai, Chairman Vice Chancellor's Committee and Rector, International Islamic University, Islamabad was the chief guest on this occasion.
Professor Dr Qaiser Mushtaq founding convenor of conference and Vice Chancellor Islamia University of Bahawalpur and other eminent scholars were also present at the concluding session. The conference was jointly organised by the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and the Higher Education Commission in collaboration with Pakistan Mathematical Society, Advanced Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Algebra Forum in Islamabad. A renowned Pakistani Mathematician Dr Javed Ahsan awarded gold medal in concluding session.
The speakers said in the concluding session that IPMC is the only forum in the country which is providing a platform on annual basis to mathematicians from Pakistan to interact and share their research contribution with eminent mathematicians from around the world since 2000. They said a sound mathematical foundation is essential for development of Science in the country and it is main responsibility of academicians to promote and flourish mathematics in Pakistan.
On this occasion Pakistan Mathematical Society to awarded gold medal to eminent mathematician Dr Javed Ahasn for his extraordinary contribution and services in the field of mathematics besides shields and certifies were distributed among speakers. Professor Dr Qaiser Mushtaq and Professor Dr Masoom Yasin Zai presented this gold medal to renowned mathematician during the ceremony.
Professor Dr Javed Ahsan was awarded Fulbright Scholarship and completed his PhD from University of Dundee, UK in 1972. He has been senior associate member of the ICTP Trieste, Italy and received many honours and awards locally and internationally. Conference Convenor Professor Dr Qaiser Mushtaq congratulated the scholar for achieving gold medal, he also thanked speakers, participants, specially foreign delegates for visiting Pakistan to attend the conference and share their experiences. He also thanked the Higher Education Commission and other collaborating institutions for supporting the conference.
