Secretary general Jamaat-e-Islami Liaquat Baloch, has said that Nawaz Sharif's challenge to the state institutions after his disqualification on corruption charges through a unanimous verdict of the Supreme Court is pushing the government of interim Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the democratic system to a blind alley.
Addressing a workers convention in the city on Monday, he counseled the former Premier to abandon vindictive attitude and accept the supremacy of the law. He said that Nawaz Sharif was yet to face references before the NAB for amassing wealth through unknown means but he was using the crutches and the resources of the federal and the Punjab government.
He welcomed Army Chief Gen. Bajwa's statement that the supremacy of the law would be fully safeguarded. He said that the supremacy of the constitution and the rule of the law alone could guarantee the unity and harmony among the provinces. He urged the Army Chief to take notice of former dictator Pervez Musharraf's statement otherwise bitterness on the political front would intensify.
He also stressed upon the parliament, the democratic forces and the state institutions to remain within their limits for the smooth running of the state. Commenting on the reduction in the POL prices, Liaquat Baloch said the decrease was not in proportion to the fall in the POL prices in the world market.
He said the government was not ready to provide any relief to the masses in any manner. He proposed that the POL prices should be made a part of the annual budget for maintaining the same prices all through the year. He said that the taxes on the POL should be reduced to bring down the prices.
