Islamabad Municipal Corporation (IMC) has started removing banners and posters put up in support of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on various avenues and along roads in the federal Capital, especially after he was ousted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan in the Panama Papers case.
Almost 200 posters/ banners have been removed since Sunday. Some of the banners with different messages and pictures of former prime minister were displayed at Shahrah-e-Suherwardi and Constitution Avenue by Mayor Islamabad Sheikh Ansar Aziz, who is also Chairman of Capital Development Authority (CDA), while others were displayed by PML-N supporters. Director Municipal Administration of IMC told Business Recorder that the team has started removing such banners/posters as no such political activity is allowed within the territory of Islamabad due to imposition of section 144.
He further said that IMC is not responsible for the banners/posters displayed in Rawalpindi and other vicinities outside Islamabad. He said political sentiments can't be stopped, adding the supporters of the government put up these posters. However, IMC issues the notices to the law violators and refrains them from doing such activities, he added.
