The Sindh government's Livestock and Animal Husbandry Department has assigned veterinary teams to examine sacrificial animals at Sohrab Goth, Asia's largest cattle market. The teams will work round the clock to facilitate traders and to ensure that the animals remain healthy, the market's administrator, Irshad Ahmed, said in a statement Wednesday.
Twelve veterinary doctors and other veterinary staff assigned by the Sindh Livestock and Animal Husbandry Department are working in three shifts. He said Dr Syed Noman Ali, senior veterinary Officer Veterinary Hospital Surjani Town is the focal person while three teams will be headed by Dr Rafique Ahmed Memon, Dr Amjad Ali Shah and Dr Saleemullah Awan. Three teams have been constituted with 12 doctors including veterinary officers, stock assistant, chowkidar, attendant, ward attendant, sanitary worker, beldar and naib qasid etc.
"Total twelve veterinary doctors accompanied by para veterinary staff have been assigned by Sindh Livestock and Animal Husbandry Department who are working round the clock in three shifts to ensure the animals' health," he added. He further stated that team one will work from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, team two from 4:00 pm to 12:00 am and team three from 12:00am to 8:00 am.
Moreover, he said that doctors and staff are continuously visiting the blocks to inspect the animals and giving treatment to animals. He urged the traders to cooperate with veterinary teams so that the basic purpose could be achieved while keeping the sacrificial animals healthy.
