Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that there is no threat to democratic system, adding Nawaz Sharif individually is in trouble and trying to save himself. "The PPP will stand in frontline if there is any threat to democratic system. At this time, there is no threat to democratic institutions. The PPP has never supported the PML-N but we always come forward for democracy," PPP chairman Friday expressed these views while addressing a news conference.
He said when Nawaz Sharif is in government, he forgets the Charter of Democracy (CoD) and the social contract but he suddenly begins talking about it once out of power. Answering a question, Bilawal said that PPP is no contact with the PML-N and even if Sharif contacts with him through phone, he would not attend the call. Answering another question, he said that there is no role of judiciary and establishment in Panama Leaks and it was international issue.
About PNL-N rally, Bilawal said, "It seems to be a drama to me," adding that Sharif is attempting to create a narrative about a conspiracy against him while addressing supporters during his rally. About criticism on judiciary by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in his speeches, Bilawal said it is contempt of court but "it appears that contempt of court applies only to the PPP."
He said, "Had you (Nawaz Sharif) taken up this narrative from the beginning, things would have been different. But it appears that you want to hide behind the oppression of [Zulfiqar Ali] Bhutto Shaheed and BB [Benazir Bhutto] and we will not let that happen." He also vowed that the PPP will return stronger in the upcoming general elections, irrespective of when they are held.
When asked about Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan's remarks that (after Nawaz Sharif's accountability) the next turn is of Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal said that next turn of Zardari is to establish government in the country.
Responding to another question about missing persons cases in Sindh, Bilawal expressed his concern over the rising number of such cases in Sindh. Condemning the incidents, he said that he had asked the government of Sindh to probe the reasons behind disappearances. "I have asked the Senate's human rights committee to take up the issue as well," he added.
About the Sindh accountability law, he while defending the recently-introduced accountability law in the province said that the right to legislate on the matter had been transferred to provinces after devolution of powers. He said that this accountability would be better than the accountability of the NAB. "NAB blackmails the people and is involved in plea bargain, which allows for it to pocket some [money] and leave the rest with others [culprits]. When Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has the right to bring its own accountability bill, why we do not have the same right," he asked.
Answering a question, he said that there is no power, except the people of the country, which can implement minus one (Zardari) formula. Earlier, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that PPP is the true torchbearer of the Ideology of Pakistan as professed by the Founder of the Nation, assuring that every word of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah for the protection and promotion of non-Muslims will be upheld, fulfilled and accomplished.
He said this while addressing a ceremony held at Zardari House on the National Minority Day being observed on Friday. The PPP chairman said that as per Jinnah's vision, every citizen of Pakistan is equal without discrimination of caste, creed, ethnicity or religion. Bilawal said that his party has taken drastic steps for the rights of the non-Muslim people so that they have adequate representation in the Parliament, bureaucracy, and every sphere of life. "PPP gave representation to the non-Muslims in the Senate for the first time in 2012.
It was Prime Minister Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto who established Ministry for Minority Affairs. He pointed out that PPP is the only party which gave representation to the non-Muslims in its organizational structure, besides inducting them in Sindh cabinet.
