Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday formed province-wise parliamentary boards led by party Chairman Imran Khan for issuance of tickets to candidates in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the next general election. The parliamentary board, comprising eleven members headed by PTI Chairman Imran Khan, will interview the potential candidates from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the next general election.
The other members of the board include Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Jehangir Khan Tareen, Asad Umar, Pervez Khattak, Asad Qaiser, Atif Khan, Shah Farman, Zar Gul Khan, Mehmood Khan and Ali Amin Gandapur.
The parliamentary board for Punjab province where the party will face arch-rival Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was also formed. The board will be headed by Imran Khan, while the members include Shah Memood Qureshi, Jehangir Khan Tareen, Ishaq Khakwani, Asad Umar, Amir Kiyani, Aleem Khan, Rai Hussain Nawaz, Shafqat Mehmood and Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar.
The notification issued by the party Secretary General Tareen stated that the boards will be responsible for issuance of tickets to prospective candidates for the upcoming general election in 2018. "The chairman has directed the formation of province-wise parliamentary boards for issuance of party tickets," said the PTI notification. The boards, formed in all provinces, will have Imran Khan as the chairman and senior leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi as the vice-chairman.
A senior PTI leader on condition of anonymity told Business Recorder that given the current political scenario, there is possibility that country may go for early elections, adding, "In this situation, we have decided to get ready for the next battle." "The reason we have formed the parliamentary board is because we want to choose the best of the best candidates in all the provinces," he added.
