Azadi Train has started its countrywide journey here from Margalla Railway Station on Saturday to mark the 70th Independence Day of Pakistan. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Marriyum Aurangzeb inaugurated the train. Addressing the inaugural ceremony of Azadi Train, she said that the government is fulfilling its promises made to people in general election 2013.
She said, "Pakistan is emerging as an economic power, which is also being recognised by the international community. She said that Azadi Train depicts culture, national heritage and tremendous development in Pakistan. The Pakistan Railways has been improvised and significant changes have brought positive image to the institution."
Azadi Train consists of five art galleries illustrated with pictures of people who sacrificed their lives during the Pakistan Movement, while six floats are also part of the train. Sacrifices of the Pakistan Armed Forces and Indian aggression in Occupied Kashmir have been displayed at the picture galleries. The floats highlight the culture of the Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
The Ministry of Railways has released schedule for 14-day journey of Azadi Train from Margalla Station and it will culminate at Karachi Cantonment Station on August 25, 2017. According to the schedule released by the Railways Ministry, the train will reach Peshawar Cantt at 4:30 in the evening. The train will leave for Rawalpindi from Peshawar Cantt on Sunday and reach Rawalpindi in the afternoon, where it will stay for the whole day on Monday.
The Special Azadi Train will leave for Lahore at 10:00pm on 15th of this month. The train will have a two-day stopover in Lahore and will leave for Karachi. The journey will come to an end at Karachi Cantt on August 25. Artists and folk singers are also travelling in the train and will perform at railway stations in major cities. Special attention is being given to Azadi Train by the Ministry of Railways.
Secretary Ministry of Railways, Parveen Agha visited Carriage Factory Islamabad (CFI) in order to check the making of Azadi Train. She appreciated the efforts of Managing Director CFI M Yusuf and his team to decorate Azadi train, adding she expressed interest in upgrading CFI.
She appreciated the efforts of Railway's Rawalpindi and Lahore divisions for the expedition of Azadi Train. Secretary Railway Board Aftab Akbar and Divisional Superintendent Rawalpindi Abdul Malik also accompanied her. She also visited Margalla Station to check the arrangements made in connection with inauguration of Azadi Train.
